Everything we wanted to be
In the beginning, you were
 Everything we wanted to be
We hung on to every word
 you wove with your magical
 hands, sparkling eyes and
 slick silver tongue

You were the poet, and we
 were the followers of your
 Art; you were happy, free,
 Everything we wanted to be

Perhaps if you had known that
 you would’ve been more
 careful with yourself
 and what you had

You broke, and dragged all of us
 down with you, master misguiding
 us disciples into fatal uncertainty

And now we have nothing left
to strive for, our souls confused,
 our dreams shattered, having lost

 Everything we wanted to be
