I gazed at the pond one last time and took a deep breath.

“You know, I always used to love the moon,

and how It would shine down on our pond, wrap us like a blanket,

giving us a little view of the fish beneath our doc.”

“I always used to love that I was on the right,

you were on the left.

And our lines always used to tangle,

and we’d argue whose fault it was.”

“I always used to love how mom was when we got home late.

Hands on hips,

frustrated, but happy we had fun so we'd all laugh it out.

I miss it.”

“I always used to love it when we caught a fish.

It was no different from any fish we have already caught,

but we were ecstatic every time.

I guess that’s what enjoying life feels like.”

I looked at the only clouds hovering over the moon.

“One day, I will meet you up there.

We will have unlimited fishing time.

I will always miss you.”

“Love,

your brother”
