Self Portrait
Self Portrait
By Ellie Fishbein
Colors spill on the blackness of your light skin,
coating your armor with the danger of reality.
Pretending can’t and won’t take you anywhere now.
The Reds pour.
Anger builds up with each dreaded drop,
and the dimness of the black shines with the fury
You’ve been hiding.
The Blues splatter.
Your head hangs a little lower
as the sadness dominates your body, paralyzing
Your existence.
The Yellows drip.
Except you wouldn’t notice, although
the brightness should seem so clear
to a person like you. Darkness is the only thing you
Show yourself.
