There are two black pits
Where your eyes used to be,
Your sweetest smile
Replaced with a line.

A golden star
Sits where your heart used to be,
The warmth inside you
Has frozen to ice.

A memory filled with pictures
Now lies untouched,
It is hard to know
If they were ever real.

A full stomach
Now sits empty and hollow,
The toy in your hands
Transformed to a piece of bread.

This adorable child
Is suddenly a man,
What was once innocence
Is now brutal wisdom.

The goals in your life,
So many dreams,
Now replaced with just one-
Breathe. Breathe.

This poem was written to the children that survived the Holocaust (physically anyway..)

This poem is really great. Not only does it show vivid images it is also clear and complex at the same time.
