Final Toll MAG
Final Toll
FREE VERSE
The thick paned glass of the classroom window,
stands between me and summer.
The grass is green with promise, but my pencil
weighs heavy in my hand.
The sky is blue with unfulfilled promise and I am trapped,
amidst a throng of invisible bars.
Boxes on a calendar are filled with X's marking each day,
served in my learning sentence.
Time, my unrelenting warden, refuses me
an early parole.
I sit awaiting a school bell's
final toll.
