The Dominion of Light
When the light is brightest and the days
Are absorbed in cotton candy clouds
 And worriless pale skies
The light does not reach here.
When the noon is at its hottest and
 The songs of summer sing
 No brightness shines here.
When all the world is congealed
 In stupors of laughter-wrought pains
The sounds, the sights, that beautiful light
 Cannot touch this place.
 Light’s dominion does not reach
 This far.
