John
John was a cab driver
One who never failed
To take people to their destinations
He’d been almost everywhere
From the top of the Bronx to the end of Long Island
From Englewood, New Jersey, to Lincoln Center
He’d seen all the sites in all the seasons
The beauty of the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center, or
The crowds on 5th Avenue shopping for the summer
Even if he’d been yelled at,
Or scolded, or
Looked down upon because of his job
He loved his job
Sure the pay wasn’t much
And he was a disappointment to his parent’s
But it didn’t matter to him of what anyone thought
He loved his job
