Me and My Best Friend
The clouds opened up and down came rain
He ran outside in his bare feet
I followed him, my best friend
We stood in the street and danced
Until there was nothing left in the sky but the moon
Looking down over us
Time had passed slowly for us
Between sunlight, stars and rain
This led us to the formal under the moon
Where we never left our feet
And together we danced
Me and my best friend
I glanced over at my best friend
As he smiled back no one could see us
We watched as the actors danced
And the scene where Elphaba sang in the rain
In the next scene she fell to her feet
And we watched as she cried beneath the moon
It was such a bright moon
But I didn’t notice as I searched for my friend
Through the crowd I followed my feet
Until my mom united us
We complained about the aftereffects of rain
And then he watched as in my show I danced
I took my shoes off so I could dance
Through the window I spotted the moon
I remembered that day in the rain
It made me miss my best friend
He wasn’t at this party with the rest of us
He couldn’t follow me to the dance floor and move his feet
Back to third grade and our cold feet
On the trampoline we danced
It was perfect, just the two of us
We jumped to the grass beneath the moon
Me and my best friend
We ran for the house to make it in before the rain
Under the moon we have danced
Our feet have slid in rain
What happened to us my friend?
