An Omitted Song
She was a girl of beauty and brains
Though the boys don't notice,
She has it all
The other kids told her she'd go as far as an inch
No one dreamed she'd go this big
Pushed aside, she got her guitar
She let an unknown tune spill out
And a new story began
Now everyone hums along
To the rich sound of the song
The inch became a mile
Now everyone knows
They omitted the legend
Right in front of them
When her parents heard her play
That Friday night
They heard a sound they wouldn't let slip
They called the radio stations
Begging them to give her a chance
She went to the studio the very next day
Leaving with a contract in hand
Now everyone sings along
To the melody she wrote down
The one who seemed too stupid in class
Was the one history chose
Now everyone hums along
The inch became a mile
Now everyone knows
They omitted the legend
Right in front of them
