i pull myself

i pull myself
painfully
hand over hand
out of the abyss
i drag myself up and over the rim
and crawl wearily away to safety
but i am not safe
you to grab me
and hurl me back
and i fight you
but you are stronger
and i fall
back down
and crash into the dark depths
i lay in a crumpled heap
then i stagger upright
and again begin to climb.
