Bittersweet

The lost breeze kissed her bright blue eyes
Her hair was long, her foot was light
Of summer’s morning, in the sultry smoke
I kissed and bade my love goodbye
My life seemed like grains of sand
Slipping between my hands
I feel the taste of blood rise up from my chest
To caress my mouth
I felt its wet and cruel kiss on my tongue
I could see death; it was alive within me
She looked like an angel in a Renaissance painting
Yet her eyes were intimate also, stealing into me
Opening locked doors
She dwells with beauty
Beauty that must die
