vengeance
The siren sits upon the rocks
that litter stormy seas
her singing draws the sailors in
and drags them to their knees
Her eyes are green and flecked with gold
her skin is pale as ice
and paired with her soprano voice
many does she entice
On serene days when waves rock not
the ocean waters blue
she sings and sings brings down whole ships
sweet voice a spiteful coo
She feels no sorrow for these deaths
for they are her revenge
she once had known true love and lost
so this she must avenge
She knows that humans are to blame
for losing her true love
some sailors thought him quite a show
brought him to land above
She sees the sailors old and young
have wives and children, some
their lips turn up in smiles sad
as they write letters home
And this she just cannot condone
for she misses these things
the warmth of a lover’s embrace
kissing as her heart sings
Times when the sea is fraught with storm
her voice too weak and sore
she sulks within her grotto cave
till sunlight takes the shore
But on calm days when waves rock not
the ocean waters blue
she sings and sings brings down whole ships
to pay her debt that’s due
