Glasses
Glasses by the thousands
Witnessing the gut-wrenching acts
Thrown in a room carelessly

Glasses by the millions
Watching as each Jewish heart cracks
Thrown in a room carelessly

Glasses by the pounds
Observing the deadly attacks
Thrown in a room carelessly

I see the glasses in the room
And I think of their owners’ doom
To think someone could be so cruel

It would be like killing a mockingbird
And it was, so I heard
To think someone could be so cruel

Hearing the bird’s sweet, jaunty song
Then it halts to a stop after not too long
To think someone could be so cruel

Seeing the repulsive, ruby red blood
that still lingers on the frames like a pig’s stench and mud
To think someone could be so cruel

My class has been studying the Holocaust for some time now and we had to write a poem about it. I chose to write about a room in the Holocaust Museum. There were piles of eye glasses from the Jewish population who had died. So this is a poem for them.
