Our Time
Traveling on the narrow country road, the car approached the muted blue barn,
A barn that housed a magnificent creature.
The pasture overflowed with ones similar,
And between them all, he stood.
His breath condensed in the crisp, starry night air
As he picked up each hoof and moved forward.
My hand reached out with an offering.
A fresh honey-crisp apple brought him to me.
His teeth emerged from behind his whisker covered lips.
The second he grabbed the treat, Time stopped.
I was home, back where I belonged
With my dapple gray giant.
Brushing his thick, overgrown fur brought back vivid memories,
Memories of a past time when we rode and ignored the world around.
That time would come again.
That time was now.
