Dry Spells
What catches us drained in a spell?
What leaves a soul parched and dry?
Inwardly we seek water in our wells
For without this water we surely will die.
Through nights, left sleepless with thirst
By day we grovel with sorrow.
Feeling we’re trapped in the worst,
We hope for storms all the morrow.
How we cry out and dance for the rain!
How we desperately wish to be wet!
No longer can we live in this pain,
But water will not come to us yet.
When it does, as it will, I’ll be drenched.
This soul’s thirst, at last, will be quenched
