What dwells in the darkness.
Oh I know what dwells in the darkness
That drives all men insane
Who looms in ne’er a happy place
A specter with no name
A creature topped with silken hair
Spun of sorrowed souls
Who shrieks with terror and delight,
When e’re the clock bell tolls
And as the hours tick by slowly
this creature most unholy
Weaves a cloak of sheer despair
To shield from all the truth that’s there
When love and joyfulness retreat
In case this creature they should meet
The creature lavishes others pain
When hope is gone and sin remains
And then at last the golden strains
Come cascading from the heavens
Light
To chase away the fear of night
Then love is found and hate is gone
There comes at last the joyous dawn
