The Old Mother
The old mother shudders
Terrified for her children
Terrified of her children
And their self-destructive ways
She’s tried to help them
Nurture them
Save them
But they ignore her existence
They fight incessantly
Hurting their siblings
Hurting themselves
When peace is simple and better
They poison their air
Choking the animals
Choking their children
And slowly killing their mother
They spend their time
On useless things
On needless things
When true problems could be solved
And their mother
Though she raised them
Though she loves them
Hangs her weary head and weeps
