Ode to My Fruit Bowl
Sweat raced down my cheeks
As I prayed for something cool
Like a bath in ARctic waters
Or a dive in an Olympic pool
But no, here it stay
Only to look up and see
Two fire-breathing dragons
Blowing flames on me
Then I shook the dream away
As quick as a fly
And focused again on the blistering heat
Until my mother called me inside
Before I took three steps through the door
I heard a whisper so low
It was a fruit bowl before my feet
And it greeted me so:
"Hello there, do not be scared
I am not a silly dream
For my plums will make your lips quiver with delight
And my pineapple will make you beam"
After considering its tastiness
Eager hands lifted it from the floor
Ode to my fruit bowl
I'll enjoy it forever more!
