The Human Mask
How deep the human soul can hide.
Human emotion buried within earthen bound flesh,
Becoming a clouded mask,
Dirtied from its original purity.
What was once radiant with beauty
Is smeared with heavy plaster,
Molded to what is perceived.
What must it take to remove such a disguise?
Must it take the body falling away
And the soul left naked for truth to be seen?
Or is it simply the warming touch
Of someone who bears their truth freely,
To begin chiseling away earthen masks of
Unchanging, unrighteous, and false happiness
Painted forever in smiles
Just a little to bright?
