A sad embrace filled with warm sorrow,
Happiness today leads to a grim tomorrow.
Falling, rising, diving while soaring,
Sailing for hours while tied to the mooring,
Unexplainable bliss, then hit by a near miss
It’s hard to believe that anyone can handle this
Now two lives are stuck, glued apart
Tied separate by what’s in the heart
All the riches of the world are nothing
Having all of them wouldn’t mean anything
The same, now, life will never seem,
As a pillow is met by a hot, salty rain.

The author's comments:
This is about the day I had to say goodbye to a friend I spent a week with at this summer camp type thing put on by the Civil Air Patrol (the civilian branch of the Air Force). I've written several poems about this, probably because I got pretty close to her, and she lives hundreds of miles away.

I know what it is like to have your best friend living hundreds of miles away, but mine is thousands   :(
