Untitled
The eagle strong, the owl fair,
The robin with song so sweet,
They gathered at my doorstep for I
Had not a bite to eat.
The eagle brought a rabbit,
The owl brought a mouse,
The robin brought a little worm
To the doorstep of my house.
I could not eat the rabbit
Nor the mouse that lay so dead,
The worm was much too slimy,
For all I eat is bread.
The eagle, owl, robin too,
They all three are my friends.
But I wish that they would skip the prey
And bring me bread instead.
