A snake in the company of a lily

A lily stands
So elegant and beautiful
Clean, white
A jade plume of leaves on one side
It just stands, poised in the garden
Waiting
A snake, with scales so black
Jeweled in the sunlight
Slithers around my stem
So beautiful and enticing
Yet dangerous and revolting
I’ve changed my mind
Get away snake
