Preacher, lonely, sitting up on a hill
Sunday late noon, sermon over, heart - cold
Words of God, messages, meaning is nil
Over the years, his doubt has grown - twofold
Holy words have lost touch, though - against will
His soul, he feared, Satan surely - cajoled
If he could surely he would dark doubts-
kill
Sacred fortitude he longed to remold
Gentle man, Father's book his only -shield
That preacher was standing on hope's -threshold
For faith returned by looking out to -field
Sunshine, soft clouds, rabbit, doe, -leaves of gold
In the grass around him, the preacher -sees
His lord, his god, has all the all of -he
