I dreamt I went to the glade in the wood again
Where the twinning path lead me toward the glen.
The path soon fell away toward the sheltered brook
And in the distance a giant's footsteps the ground it shook.

There stood a gleaming white unicorn
Her horn shimmering in the glow of the morn.
A pair of fairies fluttered out from the wood
And circled 'round to where I stood.

Atop the ridge above me
Toward a golden dragon for all to see.
His fiery breath out shone the morning light
And sent the fairy duo into flight.

A mermaid emerged from the riverbed
A garland of waterlilies crowning her head.
She glanced over to me as she reached for my hand
As the vision disintegrated like grains of sand...

My dreams of this place come these days
As my childhood seems to vanish in a murky haze.
Where did that place go, that I know now only in dreams when I sleep?
Visions of my childhood that I no longer seem able to keep.
And, try as I might...
My imagination can no longer take flight.

Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.

This is me!!! I love the theme of this poem, and I can relate it to my own life so well. I used to have a novel that would just flow to my mind so easily because I was constantly thinking of it, constantly living it. Now it's like I'm so jammed into reality (not that reality is a bad thing :) that a lot of my fiction loses it's vibrance. It's harder to get lost in my daydreams and really create good fantasy writing. This poem is profound because it is so true.

I can really indentify with this poem - I worry as I grow older that I'm losing the fabulous imagination I once had, and sometimes distant memories come to me in my sleep. Nice poem!
