Grandpa's Garden
Grandpa’s garden had rosebushes,
And fig trees, and peach trees.
Healthy, overflowing with bushels and banquets of life.
The life had nested there
For decades and generations
Planted by all family before him.
Childhood is littered
With rose petals,
And fig peals,
And peach pits,
All over the grass
With little children riding their bikes.
They ride over the rose petals
Without noticing them.
The fig peals provide
A speed bump that doesn’t hinder long.
But when they come across the peach pits,
They have to steer around.
