Citrusy Sweet
Something citrusy sweet and lovely to eat
But without so much a sprinkle of salt
Is left on the counter like yesterday’s meat.
Tiny birds tweet as they dance in the street
A prowling cat’s hunger is not its own fault
Chicks are citrusy sweet and lovely to eat.
A doe so petite lies on the concrete
Such road kill looks like highway assault
Carcass left on the counter like yesterday’s meat.
A locked away treat with a password discrete
A little boy steals what’s inside of the vault
So citrusy sweet and lovely to eat.
A garden fair and neat, with roses complete
Dogs rolling around, never ordered to halt
Flowers left on the counter like yesterday’s meat.
With blood on my teeth, my heart does not beat
What have I got left to exalt?
She was citrusy sweet and lovely to eat
But I left her on the counter, like yesterday’s meat.
