Playing Dolls
Porcelain hearts are made to break,
And there really isn’t much at stake,
When you’re only playing dolls.
Glass eyes cannot shed tears,
So it’s hard to mark the passing years,
If you’re only playing dolls.
Plastic lace was meant to tear,
And ball-gowns are good to share,
When you’re only playing dolls.
Eyes close when you lay them down,
Forced to sleep on the wooden ground,
But they’re only dolls.
Torn off fingers, and battered heads,
You play with others in their stead,
But they still remain as dolls.
Tiny hands cannot break free,
Of the master’s tyranny,
But you’re only playing dolls.
