Not Now, Never Again
The sun grinded with the wind,
Staining my cheeks with a rose shadow of red.
Today, January 27, 1945 we are free people.
Our hunger slaughtered,
Our integrity seemingly in our possession.
For now, we are free people.
Free in the sense of glory.
Free to linger atop emerald fields of green.
To embrace the silver set sunset.
Free people but not nearly free souls,
For my heart will forever remain vacant.
Never full,
Not completely whole.
