Stage Fright
Alone atop a ghostly stage
Accompanied only by stillness,
Hoping to overcome my fright
Unclear are my thoughts;
Fogged by a haze.
Curled are the edges of the paper
Sweaty are the palms of my hands,
Dancing together are nervous fingertips
A bracelet loosely surrounds the end of my arm.
Looming white walls appear to draw nearer
Ticking is the hand that takes no rest,
Waiting are open ears and hopeful faces
Sleeping thoughts waking…
Jumping…
Waiting…
Joyous am I when my mind grows clearer!
With silence there is no cause
Spoken are my first words
Breaths are finally released,
The unknown become familiar faces
Overwhelming is a beautiful applause.
