The Finish Line

It's in these moments-
-when my pounding feet
send shivers up my legs-
-when concrete leaps
out of my path-
-when the wind pulls me,
trying to hold me back-
-when I forget that I'm
breathing-
-when all I see is
the finish line-
-when all I hear is
my own heartbeat-
-when my pulse matches
each stomp of my feet-
It's these moments
That make all the pain
Worthwhile.
