The Moon
Does the moon ever feel lonely?
Cursed to remain so high up in the sky
Seemingly close enough to touch
But actually so far away from everything
And everyone
Does the moon ever feel shy?
Placed center stage in the heavens
To be judged by those
Who have no business to judge it all
Forced to be the subject
Of a million probing and critical eyes
Does the moon ever feel inadequate?
Admired by all
But secretly uncomfortable with its bright glow
Which stands out from all else in the dark sky
If the moon is like me
It does
If I could do one thing
I would fly to the moon
I would tell it not to worry
And I would tell it that it’s beautiful
