abused and forlorn
they rasp against
the chalkboard of the night.
within the same rythym
mine rise with
the cresting of your chest.
it is the ineffable
lullaby of mine.
this is the safest place i know.
warm, soothing swell
"listen to the waves,
swoosh-swoosh"
and down my chest relaxes
with your exhale.
an organic respirator
the reminder of life
wrapping me in warmth.
this is the safest place i know.
the sound of your heart
mingles in a slowdance
with these four lungs of ours.
braced within the bone-built cradle of your chest, ribs, and shoulder
arms tangled up in a jig-saw puzzle
this is the safest place i know.
you kiss my temple,
stroking hair out of my sleeping face
no one knows where we are
but this is the safest place i know.
your breathing is my
ineffable lullaby.
