Gay Marriage

Dreaming and dreaming of that special day.
But some have declared I shall not have it.
They prattle about within safe harbor
and peer out their windows to judge the gloom.
I have been chained to society’s whims,
but no longer will I stand within walls,
(walls which jeer and taunt at my tortured heart)
that shield me from my love, decorated
in white, a passionate kiss, and church bells.

Men pretend to ponder on our rights and dreams
but away from the masses’ prying eyes,
they have declared my freedom null and void.
It’s not true marriage, they shout from the roof
while in the shadows they play with those w*****
in dirty backstreets and grungy hotels
as their wives remain patient and waiting.
Why is your love better than mine, and why
have I been exiled from love and marriage?

Don’t remind me of your religious views.
Your books and hymns have no control over me.
Your petty excuses fall on deaf ears.
I am free of your house of worship, so
now free me, from the binds of your own laws.
All I want is to stand, bathed in sunshine
in a dress of purity. My life is not
your life. So now leave me alone to dream.
The truth? I will love whoever I choose.
