The Ride
The sun shines bright and the grass is wet from the rain last night.
I sit on my bike getting ready for a long ride with no end.
I press play on my iPod and I'm off.
The wind whistling past my ears, no one outside, they are afraid and must hide.
I go faster and faster and finally reach the small bridge.
I have the feeling it will collapse and the dark river will swallow me.
I keep riding, I need speed to make it up the hill.
I’m usually greeted by someone, but not this day.
Another hill follows around the corner and is connected to a forever lasting sidewalk.
I ride fast, feeling tense.
The houses and cars around me are a blur, I want them to disappear.
My legs are tired, but I keep going faster and faster.
I see the school in sight and I know I’m near the end.
I finally make it and feel relief.
I make my way around the back of the school where a baseball field lyes.
I stop my music and stare, stare so long I almost see nothing.
There is something, something hidden in the grass, but I don’t understand.
I stare at the rest of the land and it all disappears.
I see no one, they are all hiding, hiding from their fears.
I come back to reality. I press play on my ipod and I’m off. Fear will not conquer me.
