The brown sparrow sings
As white crocuses cradle
Early morning’s light.

Gray stones stretch their veins
Under the unclouded sun.
A shy leaf shivers.

The rusted storm drain weeps
As late, afternoon rain falls.
The soil sighs, relieved.

Roses, draped in dew
Forgo their thorns and beckon
The late evening light.

This poem is a serial haiku. I was inspired to write it after seeing crocuses for the first time this season. I hope people will feel the weight and emotion of each stanza in this poem.
