once fire spilled over my skin
shaking over ribs to hold
burning iron in the shape of my sin

slipping under my breastbone, thin
teeth carving bite-mark confessions that fell cold
once fire spilled over my skin

scarred with shrapnel from a heart of tin
burst between bone, a constellation bold
burning iron in the shape of my sin

the shape i used to fit in
to before i bled stories that can’t be told
once fire spilled over my skin

and named me purgatory, the open
wound of waiting and secrets that unfold
burning iron in the shape of my sin

and a tree whose wisdom can’t win
back all the loves that were sold
once fire spilled over my skin
burning iron in the shape of my sin
