Five Powerful Fingers
They are the only ones who can hurt me. I am the only one who knows about them. Five powerful fingers with harsh blows and angry slaps. Five who shouldn’t be able but do. Five horrible weapons ignored by everyone else. From my cheek I can feel them, but the neighbors just sleep and pretend not to hear.
Their power is no secret. They bring destruction at every turn. They build up and calm down and hang on to sanity until they decide they can never lose their hatred. This is how they ruin.
Let one remember who I am, and they’d all apologize profusely, each holding a part of their heart. Forgive, forgive, forgive, they say to me. They beg.
When I am too hurt and tired to forgive like I’ve done so many times before, when I realize I am stronger than they make me believe, then I look into the black holes of their snake eyes. Where there is no humanity left. Five who hit and try to mend. Five who hurt and do not forget to hurt. Five whose only reason is to destroy.
