Defiant is the best word in the dictionary!

One clear day in May, a tornado swept across the sky
It took the homes of Ravenna, Ohio by surprise

The large family sat, comfy in their house on Chestnut
When suddenly the winds whipped up, making quite a clatter
Great Grandma Danes yelled clearly, “Down to the basement, right now!”

The children stood in awe, watching the world turn brilliant gray.
Aunts and uncles everywhere fumbled for the stray lagger
In the chaos one could clearly hear “Danny, Davy, Mon!
Get away from the roaring twister! Get yourselves down here!”

With all safe underground, they prepared to ride out the storm.
Then Grandma Massari jumped, yelled “The shutters are open!”
“No, don’t!” screamed the family, as she bounded up the stairs.
But her brother John went running after, calling “Florence!”

Tumbling to the landing, he steadied his eyes in surprise
And as he watched in awesome shock, Flo went out the window.
Thankfully, he pulled her back inside, and she did not die.

I was given the challenge to write a poem in which every line was 14 syllables. The result was this comical piece, based on an old family tale about my grandmother.
