I went outside and saw a red and blue castle.
It had bars that made the other kids look like monkeys in the air and slides that were like blue waterfalls hitting the ground.
There were little carriages that they slid on with their behinds.

There were noblemen sons and daughters.
There were knights' sons and daughters.
I was but a commoner.
But he was a prince.

He wore a crown of black spikes on his head.
So I knew he was a prince.
He drove a giant carriage that roared at people as it passed by.
So I knew he was a prince.

He was in my class and I was air.
He hardly looked at me and when he did it was because I raised my hand.
But somehow, I can't remember how or when, we became friends.

We would wait for our carriages at the same place.
We sometimes rode together.
He calls me 'Medusa' but he's my 'Porcupine'.
I'd throw rocks at him and kick him in the shin then run.
He'd chase me down then kick me even harder.

I hated how he made fun of me.
I loved the way he talked to me.
I see it on your faces.
You just don't understand it.
Today is the 10th year.
When 'Medusa' and 'Porcupine' began.

My best friend since kindergarten.
My crush since the day I saw him.
He calls me 'Medusa' but he's my 'Porcupine'.
He calls me stupid and ugly and annoying.
He calls me friend.

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and then we stopped talking in 8th grade.
Now he doesn't even say hi to me.
I see him surrounded by girls, who don't even know his last name.
When he walks out on the quad, I hear giggles and whispers about him.
He called me 'Medusa' and he was my 'Porcupine'.

What can I say?
I'm scared now.
I'm scared of what he'd say.
I wonder if guys even know that they make us feel this way.
We hate them then love them.
We even cry at night to.
While, they are smitten with their new lives and their new 'Medusas' to turn to.

i love how the nickname "Medusa" changed from a mean insult to a code word, a symbol of their close friendship.

All of your poems about this boy reminds me of a guy I like. I love him and then I hate him. He teases me and calls me names, I do the same to him, yet I still love him. He doesn't know it though.

I have a best friend like this. I think I'll send this poem to him, though I know he won't even respond. Thank you. <3
