Place (Ghazal)
No matter the way we see, there can be no eternity in this place.
Mountains fade and flowers crumble. All memory fades of this place.
But remember stories of a stranger time, a wilder tide,
Old men saying “there be dragons”, beyond this place.
There are pockets of mystery that we will never solve,
Do we want to? Even as tame the world, we still know our place.
We are so small, and so caring for things that are smaller. Give me a chance to see
Just one more thing. Map and chart this for our children, then up again, from this place.
Listen to me and my story. Don’t relive my mistakes, the worst
Word? regret. Live before you find yourself in my place.
Quietly we scream and struggle outward into an empty night.
Because yes, there are monsters, and there are mysteries. Out there, beyond this place.
