Broken
“Hey do you guys wanna play rail road jumpers?” Elias asked
“Sure” said Emma
“I guess” said Libby as she shrugged
“Yeah” Miles chimed in
“how do you play?” I said feeling totally stupid
Elias explained with a sigh “It’s when you jump to a different log and back as fast as you can, and the more you do jump the more points you get!”
“Ok, I’ll play!” I said, my heart racing
“Ok,” muttered Elias, “we each have one or two people on our team, so when you get tired, you can switch out!” my heart would not stop racing I was afraid I would break an arm or leg all I could think was “what will mom do when she finds out
I picked Emma and Miles, still very worried that I would fall and break my leg. Little did I know I wasn’t very far off. I tried not to panic but somehow I knew I would fall. I panicked and panicked again. I survived my first turn. Then after miles went, Emma went. Finally it was my turn again. I started running toward the rail road tie. Feeling somewhat confident I tried to jump on the railroad tie, but instead I tripped.
I couldn’t move my right wrist. My eyes started to tear up. I tried to move it over and over again. I began to cry. It felt worst than someone repeatedly stepping on my wrist. I got up and raced to the office still crying “Ms. Delp I cant move my wrist, I fell and landed on it” I said.
“Ok, let me call your parents, can you give me their numbers?” asked Ms. Delp.
“Sure” I sniffled “573-465-0328 is m…my mom’s n…number.”
”Ok” “let me call her” said Ms. Delp when the lady at the desk answered the phone “can I talk to Kelly? Her daughter came to the office and her wrist is swollen.” I imagine the person on the other end of the phone said
“Sure let me go get her” when my mom came on the phone I heard Ms. Delp says
“Hey Kelly can you come look at Haley’s wrist? She fell and landed on it. I think she may have sprang it!” My mom said
“ I’ll be right there and I’ll call her father”
“Ok thank you” said Ms. Delp
I waited and as my mom pulled up my wrist started to hurt worst. All I thought was “will she yell at me I kept repeating
“Its broken mom, I broke it” I sucked back the pain and let her examine my wrist. After a scary trip to the doctor they said I broke my wrist, I was relieved to hear it wasn’t permanent
The thing I remember most is how hard it was to write. But my friends were there for me and I couldn’t have made it this far in life without them. My friends are always there for me.
