Nonny
You forgot yourself, but you never forgot me.
You forgot my mother, my cousin, even how to eat.
Alzheimer's cannot take you away from our family tree
Mom and I visited you every weekend, but to me it felt like every three
We never truly got to meet
You forgot yourself, but you never forgot me.
We both got to escape reality
at least for awhile; I remember dancing ballet for you, full of conceit
Alzheimer's cannot take you away from our family tree
What could I do to set you free
I would sometimes have to remind you to eat
You forgot yourself, but you never forgot me.
I never realized that seeing you every week, would not be a guarantee
Learning you had passed was hard, I knew it was for the best, but it was still bittersweet
Alzheimer's cannot take you away from our family tree
Your wish was to be with the fish, and so your ashes were tossed into the sea
Your advice still sticks with me, to stay upbeat
You forgot yourself, but you never forgot me.
Alzheimer's cannot take you away from our family tree
