She gazes, never turning away,

You look back curious, wondering if you should stay.

She stares, watches, waiting

What doom is her gaze fating?

You know you should leave but something draws you in,

A mysterious darkness; a sin

What does she want and what does she know?

The lady in the bay window.

She's paler than can be well,

yet darker than anyone could foretell,

her knuckles white with specs of blood,

almost as bright as her sweater; a crimson flood

Her dark eyes search yours,

Going through even the darkest doors

Telling you to run even though she made sure you can't do so

The lady in the bay window

So many questions arise in your mind

You didn't see the danger; how could you be so blind?

You can't escape so you try to go through her doors instead,

through those eyes that make you feel so dead

Is she a widow?

Did she go through worse than anyone might know?

If she wants revenge to what lengths would she go?

The lady in the bay window

Quickly her stare becomes too much;

You finally manage to look away from that murderous touch

You're spared only a second before looking back in fright,

Wondering how you will put up a fight

You turn back to see that she's gone,

Was she playing a game and you were the pawn?

Where on earth did she go?

The lady in the bay window

The author's comments:

I was in my backyard listening to music one day, and it was beginning to get dark. I noticed a light coming from the house in the woods behind my house, and further saw a lady just standing in her window watching me. I was unsettled, and kept watching her, waiting for her to look away, but she never did. Growing more uncomfortable, I made a couple rhymes about the situation. As more time passed and the staring continued, I started writing down the rhymes and created new ones until I had a full poem. By the time I finished writing the lady was still in the window so I went inside and sent it to my friend in attempt to scare her. That was the farthest I was planning for this piece to go, but then my mom read it to her high school girls who enjoyed it. After hearing that I figured I would just put it out there and see what happens.
