Here's the Thing
Here’s the thing -
I’ve never been one to take my own advice.
It’s the easiest thing in the world
to know what the right thing is
when you’re not the one sitting in the driver’s seat.
I could spend hours talking someone off a ledge,
just to go home and balance on my own.
Here’s the thing -
I understand relapse.
I understand uncertainty.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not have my life together.
For lack of a better metaphor, I could call myself a seesaw,
constantly moving from one extremity to another,
never able to find that middle ground.
I don’t have all the answers, darling,
but oh, I wish I did.
I am not the stars, the sun or the moon.
Though, I like to think I know a little bit about human nature,
and it’s normal to feel like you’re alone
but it’s important to never believe it.
When it feels like your bones have hollowed out
and all that lurks inside you is black, empty space,
know that I’ve been there.
Know that I got through it.
Know that you can, too.
