This is the story of the little girl
With eyes full of flame
A precious gem, a priceless pearl
But broken all the same

Full of grinding gears and broken glass
That tore her bit by bit
Lost to the darkness of her past
Trapped inside her pit

She wanders on without direction
Grasping for a hand
Can't even see her own reflection
When at the mirror she stands

The mirror's cracked and smeared with dirt
Its frame rotting in decay
Death always taunts and teases and flirts
Saying he'll take the pain away

But there's beauty in the broken glass
That's what she's always said
A pulchritudinous glow alas
Behind what seems so dead

She knows she's needed here with us
That girl with eyes aflame
She knows she's needed to mend the cuts
And heal those put to shame

As she wanders through the shadows
She refuses to succumb
To their taunts so bleak and hollow
As she silences their tongues

Stars begin to shine
Flashing in the sky
She knows it is a sign
That death has passed her by

She has a lamp in the dark
A light to lead her home
No more can the shadows bark
And tell her she's alone

Such is the story of the little girl
With eyes full of flame
A precious gem, a priceless pearl
But broken all the same

This poem was inspired by a close friend of mine. I've never previously been able to write a poem about a real person, so this is new for me. Let me know what you think with a comment or a rating.
