An Innings Cut Short
The better they are the harder they fall.
An entire life cut short by a single ball.
He retired hurt, when his face hit the dirt,
Moments later, he’s in a coffin, his own cricket shirt.
We destroy to create, we need death in moderation.
But this was wrong, it was a miscalculation.
Heartbeat. Heartbeat. Silence. Crying.
Everyone who could, desperately trying.
Everyone else communally allying,
Trying to do the unthinkable, but death’s eyes were prying.
What happens, happens, it can’t be halted.
A man left everyone, so completely changed and altered.
No-one will forget, they will never let go.
We will all watch the credits, we all watched the show.
A life cut short, but a life worth living.
Life is cruel, wicked, unforgiving.
In pure disbelief, people anguished,
Wondering how a young man, 25, vanished.
We all will take a last breath, life implies death.
But this was not to be, it was an act of pure theft.
Out at 25, didn't make 50, but raise your bat, raise it high,
The spectators’ cheer doubles as their final good-bye.
You are not with us, but you are not gone,
Ashes to ashes, but your legacy will go on.
