Darling Don't Follow the Stars
I have never believed
That the stars belong
In the sky of a villainous night.
Never found it right
That gems of pride
And queens of hope
Sprinkled to twinkle, and
Blinking in the black
Are not swaddled or coddled
But barren
And bored
In the inky, slinking
Overwhelming dark
That torments and taunts
And limits their light
How can you shine in blackness so thick?
Darling, don't follow the stars.
Reflect light, be the moon, or
Spread your own, be the sun.
But darling, you don't belong in
The Big Black Sea you call home.
Where your blaring bling
Is beaten and blighted.
Don't stay
Any place
Where your gleam is slighted.
Please, rise above the black.
Bring yourself back.
Be bright,
Bold and Beautiful.
But darling, don't follow the stars.
