Safety in Shadows
Knowledge may seem most powerful,
But decisions and unique identity hold more.
I’d rather be a tale untold,
Than a story
Written by those around me
To be unknown
Is the bullet proof vest,
Protecting me
From the shots of judgment and control
Fired from all sides.
I’d rather be the main character
Of a book never read
Than star in a life long movie
I didn’t even write.
Though the spotlight is beautiful,
There is safety
In the shadows.

This is an identity poem. I wanted the whole piece to be somewhat of a metaphor.
