Cork
My teacher called us over and we looked
A cork was floating in the water.
“Who knows why?”
I don’t.
She used big words,
8th grade words.
One day I’d know
Why the cork rose like a fish
Bobbing for bits of bread in our pond.
For now her monotone words
Remained 8th grade noise.
