Dusk 'Till Dawn
I am from the aroma of matured olives dangling next to silky-soft leaves,
to the smooth scent of vanilla flowing from the half-melted candle in the foyer.
I am from a beige ranch style home,
to a candle-lit bedroom, where the view of the sky leads to a wandering mind.
I am from the days of pursuing my cousins around the mahogany-hardwood floor,
to bedtime stories, where if I reached far enough, I might catch a star of my own.
I am from the burnt orange sunrise and the isolated silence at dawn,
to the crammed intimacy of a packed car: the moonlight shining down on us.
I am from seat 24 B on flight 276, looking down onto flashing lights,
to the 3 am drives gazing up into the mysterious sky.
I am from a life of wonder, spontaneous acts and dreams-
where determination has tunnel vision.
I am from the distressed wood panels which outline my view to the sky,
where I realize with each dusk and dawn, that the stars are incredibly close to being mine.
